Covid-19 Update: Stage 4 Restrictions in Victoria

On Monday 3 August, Premier Daniel Andrews announced changes to the building and construction industry as part of the Stage 4 lockdown in metropolitan Melbourne.  For current and up to date restrictions as announced by the Victorian state government, please refer to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website.

With the current restrictions as they stand, we understand they may result in delays for your projects.  Master Builders Insurance Brokers (MBIB) encourages you to check that your projects do not exceed the maximum insured construction period in your policy.  Construction insurance policies contain clauses limiting the maximum construction duration, and this duration is typically 18-24 months through most annual policies placed through MBIB.  These construction periods can often be extended on a case by case basis when requested, but this is not always possible.  Please contact us if delays on your projects have the potential to exceed a total of 18 months, or if you have any concerns.

Single project policies usually have a shorter construction period, initially 12 months at the beginning of a policy. They can also be more challenging to extend if there have been multiple extensions already or the period is greater than 18 months.  However, we can still look at these being extended on a case by case basis.  Please contact MBIB should you have a single project policy which now may run past the maximum construction period.

We are working closely with Master Builders Victoria to seek clarity on a number of the conditions of the stage 4 lockdown.  We encourage you to follow Master Builders Victoria social media or refer to their website for ongoing updates.

As your industry specialists, MBIB continues to support our clients through this unprecedented time. If you have any queries as to how the latest restrictions may impact your insurance, please contact your MBIB broker, or phone our Victorian office on 03 9411 4555.
